Skimmia japonica Thunb. var. japonica
Although not related to Ilicium anisatum (shikimi), the Japanese name reflects the visual resemblane of the leaves, and, like I. anisatum, it is poisonous and, apparently, also used in Buddhist rituals The flowers have a nice smell and the leaves can be short (~10cm) and skinny or long (~20cm) and wide.
